What is a pathway?

Pathway programs are tailored for international students and prepare you for success at University.† UNSW Global pathways^ include Foundation Studies Programs, Diploma Programs and English Language Courses. These programs and courses are designed to give you the academic knowledge and English language skills needed to meet the entry requirements to a university degree, while making your transition into UNSW Sydney as smooth as possible.

Who is it for?

Students who want to study a bachelors degree but have missed out on direct entry because they haven’t finished high school, their qualifications are not recognised, they have not met the entry criteria, or they need some additional English tuition.

Progression to UNSW

When you successfully complete your pathway program, and meet the grade point average (GPA) and English language requirements, you will gain entry to your chosen UNSW bachelors degree. If you are studying Foundation Studies and do not meet the GPA required to enter first year, you may have the option to complete a Diploma Program before progressing to second year at UNSW.

Foundation Studies Programs

UNSW Foundation Studies Program can help you meet the academic and English entry requirements for a bachelors degree at UNSW Sydney.

The program is for you, if you:

  • Have completed at least 11 years of schooling or finished high school.
  • Just missed out on entry to a UNSW Sydney degree or Diploma Program.
  • Want to study at UNSW.

Diploma Programs

A UNSW Diploma is the perfect transition to university life in Australia. It’s ideal for international students who need extra support, including those who missed out on direct entry into their preferred bachelors degree, or hold qualifications that aren’t recognised by UNSW Sydney.

A UNSW Diploma makes it easy to adjust to the second year of your undergraduate degree:

  • Smaller classes and at least 20% extra teaching time.
  • Additional English and academic skill support.
  • Course material equivalent to first year courses within the UNSW Sydney degree.
  • Access to the same facilities and resources as undergraduate students.

English Language Courses

UNSW Foundation Studies Program can help you meet the academic and English entry requirements for a bachelors degree at UNSW Sydney.

The program is for you, if you:

  • Have completed at least 11 years of schooling or finished high school.
  • Just missed out on entry to a UNSW Sydney degree or Diploma Program.
  • Want to study at UNSW.

† Students who become Australian permanent residents or Australian citizens during a Diploma Program will be subject to additional competitive processes for entry to a UNSW Sydney degree program.
