We're excited you are joining us as a new UNSW Global student. We have developed this Online Orientation guide to make sure that you can easily complete the steps required to start your studies.

Step 1: Get prepared

Before your classes commence at UNSW Global, you will need to organise your IT set up and familiarise yourself with Moodle, your new learning environment.

Checklist

Check that you have an appropriate device for online learning. Read the Personal Electronic Device guidelines.
Check that you have a stable internet connection. Read the Internet Connection guide.
If you are living in mainland China, you can access the China Student Access Network (CSAN). This is a virtual highway that offers a more reliable, secure and consistent internet connection. Read the CSAN guide to learn how to access this.
Attend the meeting: Meet & Greet on Zoom. A link will be sent to your personal email one week prior to your Orientation Day inviting you to meet your teachers and support team here at UNSW Global.
Attend the meeting: Getting set up with Student Services & IT on Zoom. A link will be sent to your personal email one week prior to your Orientation Day. The recording will also be available on Moodle for you to watch.
Attend the meeting: Studying Online & Wellbeing on Zoom. A link will be sent to your personal email account one week prior to your Orientation Day. The recording will also be available on Moodle for you to watch.

Step 2: Activate your account and get set up as a student

As a UNSW Global student, you will need to activate both your G-ID (UNSW Global ID) and Z-ID (UNSW ID), to access both UNSW platforms.

To activate your accounts, you must complete the ‘IT Starter’ and follow the steps below.

Checklist

Find your G-ID on your Confirmation of Enrolment letter (CoE) or Letter of Offer or check with your agent. You will see your Z-ID once you have completed your IT Starter.

Log into UNSW's Learning System, Moodle - Please note, your classes and timetable will be displayed after your program starts.
Log into your student email account.

Step 3: Attend all your Orientation sessions

Your Orientation starts with a self-guided session which must be completed. We have allocated time between 9am - 12pm (AEDT) on the morning of your Orientation Day for this activity.

You will then attend live meetings where you will meet your academic team and peers and learn about your program. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions you might have. You will receive more information about these sessions by email on the morning of Orientation.

Checklist

Check your personal email account on the morning of Orientation.
Read the Orientation email from UNSW Global which will provide you with all the links you need to complete the below steps. If you have not received the email or have enrolled close to the Orientation date, please email Student Services and they will send you this information.
Follow the steps to access your Orientation material on your Moodle page.
Attend the compulsory Meet and Greet session (1pm - 2pm AEDT). You will receive a link by email on the morning of your Orientation Day at approximately 8am AEDT.
Attend the Under 18 information session (2pm - 3pm AEDT) if you are under 18 years old. You will receive a link by email on the morning of your Orientation Day at approximately 8am AEDT.
Attend the compulsory Learning online meeting (3pm - 4pm AEDT). You will receive a link by email on the morning of your Orientation Day at approximately 8am AEDT.
In the first week of classes attend the optional Support Zoom session where you can 'Drop in with Student Services and IT' and receive instant support. You will receive a link by email on the morning of your Orientation Day at approximately 8am AEDT.
In the first week of classes attend the optional Activities and Engagement social Zoom meeting, where you can make new friends. You will receive a link by email on the morning of your Orientation Day at approximately 8am AEDT.

Step 4: Get your timetable and attend your classes

You will be able to view your class timetable after orientation, via the online platform, Publish. You will set up your password to access Publish during your IT starter.

In your first week of classes, we will have a range of support meetings available to ensure that you are set up for success! You will receive more information by email.

Meeting: Virtual Private Q&A in with Student Services & IT

This is an optional session where you can join any time within the hour and consult with Student Services or IT on any issues you have experienced during your first week. You do not need to have your camera or microphone on and you can ask confidential questions in our private breakout rooms.

Meeting: Ice Breaker with Student Activities and Engagement Social

Get to know your new classmates and make some new friends! You will meet the Student Activities & Engagement team and your new classmates over some fun games.

Checklist

Review your UNSW Global timetable (Please note: Timetables will only be available on Publish on your first day of Class).
Attend support meetings.

Missed your Orientation session?

Your Orientation session is compulsory but if you have enrolled late then you may have missed it. You will still need to complete all the steps above. All online meetings are recorded and available for you to watch. Please contact the Student Services team for more information.

If you enrol within one week of your program start date, you will receive the necessary information to complete your set up and join orientation. Please note if you enrol late, there may be a delay in your account set up. You will be able to access any orientation or course material you might miss. We encourage you to accept your offer and enrol at least two weeks prior to your program's start date.

You will receive a link in your Orientation emails for a Parent Information Session prior to Orientation Day.

If you can’t attend the live session, you can watch one of the pre-recorded sessions below.
