Martin Spears

Martin Spears is Group Executive Assessments at UNSW Global. In this role he oversees research, assessment tool development and the operational challenges of implementing and deploying products across the globe.  Martin works closely with partner schools in Australia and Asia to help teachers use performance data to develop appropriate individual learning plans for students.

After graduating from Monash University with a degree in Psychology and Communications, Martin started a long and successful career in education publishing, working for Longman, which subsequently became part of Pearson.

“The stakes are high, society demands so much more of students, and therefore of the institutions providing access to education.  At UNSW Global, we play an important role supporting teachers and empowering students to achieve their personal best”

During his 20 years at Pearson, Martin was responsible for overseeing development of the K to 12 (Kindergarten to Year 12) business in Australia and the Asia Pacific which included the development and delivery of digital materials and curricula for schools for the benefit of teachers and students. During this time Martin was also involved in the detailed process of integrating other Pearson businesses, requiring a deep understanding of process, people and technical operations.

Martin became President of South East Asia for Pearson in 2012 in a role which spanned multiple sectors, countries, and qualification environments.  This provided Martin with a deep insight and extensive network within South East Asian education.  One of Martin’s greatest achievements during this time was leading teams that successfully developed and delivered a range of curriculum specific, culturally relevant resources for schools in different countries. As Group Executive, Assessments, Martin continues his work supporting schools to appreciate the fundamental role that educational resources and assessment play in shaping future students.
