Marc Weedon-Newstead

Marc Weedon-Newstead is a Group Executive for the education portfolio at UNSW Global.  Prior to this role, he was Group Executive for the UNSW Institute of Languages, a role he took when he first joined the UNSW Global team in 2009.  In his current role, Marc has overall responsibility for UNSW Global’s pathways and languages business, including programs which lead to university entry such as diplomas, foundation studies and the university English entry course.   Marc reports directly to the CEO and is a key member of the executive group.  His background involves a long and deeply held association with international education and language studies, from his early days as a Teacher of English in a remote part of Sudan through his educational achievements and qualifications in teaching English, to his current board role at English Australia.

Marc’s early teaching experience in the Sudan was where he learned first hand about the transformational role that education can play in the daily lives and future direction of young people. Through travelling the world and living in Africa, the Middle East and Japan, Marc has developed a unique ground level understanding of the global education market.

His recent career has involved numerous leadership positions, as CEO of Access Programs Ltd before joining UNSW Global, and prior to that, as General Manager, International Programs at ACL (now part of Navitas) and as General Manager at the INSEARCH Language Centre.

As Group Executive, Marc’s current role is focused upon ensuring market changes in this dynamic exciting sector are matched by internal operational innovations to ensure that the needs of students and the business are sympathetically balanced. Drawing upon Marc’s long experience in customer service, product development and strategy he and the teams he has led have been focused on developing new language pathways, partnerships and educational products to support student success.

External to UNSW Global, Marc continues his sector leadership as Chair of the Board at English Australia, which is the peak body for the English language sector of international education in Australia representing over 100 institutions.

Marc is a passionate ambassador for the sector and brings his accumulated knowledge and expertise to promote and develop opportunities for students.  When time allows, Marc enjoys sailing on Sydney Harbour and spending time with friends and family.
