Head of Strategic Initiatives
As Head of Strategic Initiatives, Mai-Lynda Allen is responsible for identifying strategic opportunities for UNSW Global and developing synergistic opportunities that align the business with the wider strategic aims of UNSW, integrating UNSW Global strategic planning with UNSW Strategy 2025+.
Returning to UNSW Sydney after nearly two years at UTS Insearch, where her role involved aligning strategy, systems and policies to ensure consistency across the Education Department, Mai-Lynda’s deep understanding of UNSW comes from a total of 13 years’ experience in previous roles across the University.
She worked in Protocol, Graduations and was the General Manager at UNSW International, where she was instrumental in offshore operations, international student recruitment and global business development. Her most recent senior position encompassed a leading role for the UNSW Operational Excellence Change Program, bringing together the International, Marketing and Communications functions into the new Division of External Relations. This experience has equipped Mai-Lynda with a broad overview of University systems and processes and, as a result, her eye is well-primed to spot natural alignments between UNSW Global and the University.
Working in education is Mai-Lynda’s vocation and she is thrilled to continue this career path at UNSW Global. The student experience is a focus area for Mai-Lynda, and she is passionate about facilitating an experience that enables students to thrive. She is proud to be part of a team that is making a positive difference in the lives of people. Seeing this play out in action is not only satisfying professionally, but also personally as she has seen first-hand how studying overseas leads to significant and lasting positive impacts on close members of her family.
Mai-Lynda is also passionate about supporting a work culture where people are recognised as being central to the success of the business and their well-being is a priority. Out of work, she is a keen cyclist and loves spending as much time as possible with her two small children.
